HOMEPLANE Kurzbeschreibung

Der private Nutzer erlebt heute in seinem Wohnumfeld eine bunte Mischung von einzelnen Endgeräten, die er für die vielfältigen Aufgaben der Informationsverarbeitung und der Nutzung elektronischer Medien einsetzt. Ohne ein schlüssiges Gesamtkonzept hat die vielzitierte Konvergenz der Technologien in der Praxis noch nicht stattgefunden. Dadurch wird eine Vielzahl wünschenswerter neuer Dienste so umständlich und unattraktiv, dass deren Markterfolg ausbleibt. Anderseits bietet die technologische Entwicklung mittlerweile eine Vielzahl kostengünstiger Einzellösungen für dieses Problem. Derzeit fehlt die Anpassung derartiger Lösungen an die Anforderungen des Heimnetzwerkes und eine Standardisierung, um ein homogenes, nutzerfreundliches Gesamtkonzept herstellerübergreifend zu ermöglichen. Die Aufgabe des Projektes HOMEPLANE besteht darin, dieses Problem zu lösen und damit ein Konzept zu schaffen, das im Heimbereich unterschiedliche Endgeräte und Netze zu einer homogenen, nutzerfreundlichen Plattform für verschiedenste Dienste verbindet.

HOMEPLANE Summary

Currently, a private user experiences a colorful and diverse mixture of electronic devices in his home, which he employs for a multitude of different tasks in information technology and to manipulate electronic media. But because there is still no convincing overall concept for home networks, the projected convergence of technologies has not taken place in practice. As a consequence, many promising applications and services become so complex that a successful introduction to the market is prevented. On the other hand, recent technological developments have lead to a number of effective but often incompatible solutions. Today, the major need is to adapt these solutions to the requirements of the home network and to formulate well-designed standards, leading to a homogeneous and user-friendly system concept which is supported by different vendors. The central aim of the project HOMEPLANE is to solve this problem, creating a unified platform oriented towards the end user which can enable the multitude of services in future home networks.
